Bitta Generation 1° Edition

Vasto, Italy – June 2011

This project brought together young artists from across Europe to reflect on identity, culture, and environmental activism in a changing world. Challenging the classical concept of “generation,” the initiative proposed a more individual and experience-based view, shaped by transnational mobility and diverse personal paths. Drawing inspiration from the Beat Generation and the Italian word bitta (a mooring point), participants explored the idea of creative pause, reflection, and contribution to common goals through art.

During a 10-day workshop in Vasto, participants were divided into three teams focused on graphic art, comics journalism, and video animation. They engaged deeply with local ecological issues, combining field visits with creative sessions. The result of this experience is a collection of artworks and a traveling exhibition, expressing personal responses to environmental challenges and the value of direct contact with nature.
