Bitta Generation Vol. 6 – Erasmus Marrucinorum

Chieti, Italy, 2024-2025

Bitta Generation 6 brings together artists, youth workers and activists from eleven European organisations for a double meeting in Chieti, in the Abruzzo region. The project unfolds across two moments, a Seminar in November 2024 and a Training Course in February/March 2025, and uses the city as a living laboratory where history, archaeology and contemporary youth culture constantly meet.

Starting from the dense cultural layers of Chieti and the archaeological heritage preserved in the museums “La Civitella” and “Villa Frigerj”, participants explored the town through guided walks, evening wanderings and independent field research. Each person created a personal map of places, objects and stories that resonated with them. These fragments then became the raw material for graphic art, murals, photography, video pieces and texts.

Non formal education methods structured the whole process: small group work, collaborative storytelling, peer feedback, street interventions and public presentations. Local institutions and associations opened doors, archives and spaces, allowing the group to access lesser known corners of the city and to meet people who care for its past and present.

The result is a collective portrait of Chieti seen through many different eyes. The artworks gathered in this publication do not try to offer a single official image of the city. Instead they show how broken statues, old shop signs, everyday gestures and nighttime streets can become symbols, metaphors and starting points for new narratives.

This sixth Bitta Generation volume invites readers to travel through Chieti alongside the participants, to follow their visual traces and to imagine how European youth can dialogue with ancient roots while shaping their own future.

During this project we also created a special colouring book, collecting artworks from different artists inspired by details of the places we visited in Chieti. It can be used as a creative tool to explore the city’s history and atmosphere with young people and local communities. Feel free to download it, print it and use it in workshops, activities or personal moments of reflection.
